145 gross blacktail!
« on: July 04, 2011, 04:08:28 PM »
I got this deer from a good friend who lives up in monroe, he isn't a big game hunter but had this deer in his garage and wanted to give it to me. The deer was killed about 4 years ago, I scored it at 145 6/8 gross, it had 6 2/8 in deductions with a final score of 139 4/8, the width was 24 4/8ths.  I was wondering what you guys would think this would sell for if I had it mounted on a cape and put it on craigslist? It looks much bigger is person! Happy fourth America!

you might not be able to sell it for the average mount price, unless you do it yourself I know guys that sell theirs on average for about $350.  I say keep it as a gift since its from your friend clean it up and try to do your own clean euro mount.  Good Luck :twocents:

I think that if a deer gets hit by a car it is illegal to pick up the antlers, that being said. I'm not sure how the deer died, but if I saw something like this dead on the side of the road I sure as heck wouldn't leave it.

I need to find a new place to hunt, I've seen a coulple up their bear hunting that were damn nice but nothing like this guy.  I'm torn between using my cape from last year or just putting it on a plaque, either way I'm just lucky to have a buck of that caliber in the house.

Truthfully you wont recoupe the money it costs do to a quality mount and nice cape. Unless it is of HIGH Boone and Crocket scores and officially scored , there really is no market in selling mounts .Probably better off to just sell the rack wich top end may bring 150-200.00.

Thanks for the input, I would have a cape from last season but I think I will go with the European mount. I thought since it was grossing around the 145 mark that it may have been worth more than I was thinking, sure is a nice buck though.  I never thought I would hold a 145 class blackie! My biggest one was last year at 120. Take care.

Blacktails are sought after by local guys so you never know what you may actually get for a rack, thats just what I have seen .
